Is it possible to pull SNMP data from a PowerVault DR4100?
The Administrators Guide mentions port tcp/199 that is used by "SNMP daemon". However I have tried connecting to it and it gives no data.
Port tcp/1311 is also mentioned as Hardware Health Monitor. This doesn't give any response, either.
Is it not possible to monitor the DR4100?
Have a 3220i array with free pool space that when I click on create volume from the PVMDSM software, sits there spinning on "Working". I have 4 other volumes on the array where this has had no issues in the past.
Any help would be appreciated
I recently updated my firmware and MDSM to the latest version. Today, I was needing to create some virtual disks, but when I click on Create Virtual Disk nothing happens (the config window does not appear). I've never had this issue previously, so was wondering if others are experiencing the same thing?
I've tried reinstalling, rebooting, making sure all Windows updates are current, installing to a different machine, turning off firewall, changing compatibility settings, etc. Servers run on Win 2012 R2, firmware 08.20.12.60, Powervault MD3620i.
Everything on the SAN says optimal and I haven't noticed any other issues or errors. I just can't create virtual disks. I have another enclosure arriving next week and would like to get this cleared before installing that.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
We are trying to create SMI-S user to enable SMI-S access for Enterprise Manager 2015 R1.
Following the instructions from EM guide, we run "Launch SMIS User Configuration Script via PowerShell" script. When we try to add a user or to list existing users we get "access denied" error. We've tried to run the script with administrator priviliges but to no avail. Compellent audit log contains the following message:
02/17/16-10:35:35 INFO cimserver audit: A CIM CreateInstance operation on instance "PG_User" in namespace "root/PG_Internal" by user "..." connected from system "..." resulted in status "CIM_ERR_ACCESS_DENIED".
We would appreciate any hints on that.
Hey Group -
We have a partner that purchased some off-lease Dell Compellent SC220 shelves
3x with 24x 300GB 15K SAS
4x with 24x (1x with 6x) 900GB 10K SAS
All 3x 300GB 15K SAS shelves stood up with no issue
Out of 78x 900GB 10K SAS - only 33x of them are adding to the storage pool. The other 45x are displaying "Drive is not a Dell Compellent Enterprise Plus drive". The disk drives are identical in P/N and firmware REV.
They already have 96x drives in their system so not a licensing issue - but seeing if anyone has run into this before and has some advice for helping them out.
Thanks!
I am trying to join our Storage Center to our domain. I have the configuration correct and when I run "Test Servers" it completes successfully. I then attempt to join with a domain admin username/pass, but it continues to fail with:
Summary:
Join domain failed for host:

Very vague detail. Has anyone seen activity like this?
Hi,
We have 2 Dell Compellent sites (primary/secondary) at two different locations. We are looking at geo clustering / multi subnet clustering our SQL servers for DR purposes. I am wondering if anybody has successfully set this up and how it was setup. We are concerned about how we would set it up so that we can fail over and fail back. If their are any helpful documents available, that would be awesome.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Jim
I get the following error when I try to set the Management IP address of the RAID Controller 0

Hi,
I would like to know where to download MDSM (Modular Disk Storage Manager)? Actually, I need a centralized resource repository of DELL so that I can search any tools or software for all the products of DELL?
Please help!!

i have a md3200i with a single controller. i would like to add a second controller. how would i configure it? plug and play?
Recieved an e-mail from our PowerVault MD3220i yesterday showing the following message:
Host ID: Out-of-Band
Event Error Code: 1710
Event occurred: Mar 15, 2016 2:54:45 PM
Event Message: RAID Controller Module wide port has gone to failed state Event Priority: Critical Component Type: RAID Controller Module Component Location: Enclosure 0, Slot 1
However, looking at the management console it shows everything is running and clear states: 'Storage Array Status is optimal'
No loss of service was reported during this event, everything working ok and the two servers that make up the cluster using this SAN as shared storage are all running as they should.
The event log shows one error related to this e-mail, followed by a number of informational events concerning things like Physical Disk Timed Out, Initiators failed to register, etc but I also recieved an e-mail saying 'Needs attention condition resolved' (although the order was a bit odd).
It would appear all is ok, the RAID controller had a bit of a 'wobbly' but seems to have resolved itself however I am concerned this has happed.
I've taken a Support Data Package in preperation to send to Dell, but I'm not in the office until next week and I can't do a support call via e-mail for this according to the website but have to call.
Any thoughts? Should I be worried? Appreciate if a Dell Support Rep could contact me.
Pete
Hi,
We have an out of warranty MD3000i that has been running fine for years, but has recently begun throwing event code 1707, 1706 and 4011 errors every few months, and leaving us with Virtual Disk Not On Preferred Path showing in the MDM client. Previously we checked all cabling, redistributed the disks back to the preferred path and the error goes away for several weeks. Are we looking at a failing controller or could this be a network component issue?
Hi,

I need to know what expansion array should I use and How many expansion array can I use for maximum space.
I am fully confuse in time of choosing appropriate expansion array ? Expecting your suggestion....

I have Md3600i with two shelves MD1200
One MD1200 was created as Disk Group Raid 6
I am no longer using this space & would like to re-assign all the disk (12 x 1 Tb) to existing Disk Pool (12 x 2 Tb)
Is that possible/advisable?
Or shall I just create another Disk Pool instead?
Thanks
Seb
I have an RD1000 from 2008 that we stopped using due to problems with our old server. I'd like to use it as a test disk for some archiving software we developing for our video systems. What I'd like to know is this: The disks that came with it are 80 GB. I have a 500GB Tandberg disk that I'd like to use with it. Is it compatible (I've updated the BIOS to A07)? Also it seems to need some service. Can it be serviced?
Can I mix redundant and non-redundant SAS cabling scheme with SAS MD3400 arrray? (SAS array with dual controllers). For example, is it OK to have something like this:
Host A – connected to both array controllers with two separate SAS cables (redundant / dual path)
Host B – connected to one array controller with one SAS connection (no redundancy / single path)
Host C – connected to one array controller with one SAS connection (no redundancy / single path)
Host D – connected to one array controller with one SAS connection (no redundancy / single path)
Host E – connected to one array controller with one SAS connection (no redundancy / single path)
(…)
In other words: is it supported to have hosts connected with redundancy and without - to the same array in the same time?
Thanks in advance for help!

Pawel
