The Access LUN have LUN31 on all. If i'll change LUN31 to Lun32 on one host, will i'll i loose/destroy any data ?

MD3600i Storage Arrays do not appear in Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager (Enterprise Management) console

$

Hi
I successfully setup an MD3600i Powervault which has 2 Array controller's installed.

These are connected to a HP Server host via iSCSI connection and the storage is presented as 1 LUN to the Windows Host server.
All working OK and we have stored files on this powervault without error from the Host.

However I cannot now seem to manage the Powervault via the enterprise console. The Array controllers do not want to show up in the console.

I've tried automatic discovery as well as manually adding the controllers.

when adding them manually I get the message that the storage array was added successfully, however the console doesnt list the controllers for me to control!

I've looked in Tools>>Manage Storage Array, however this menu is greyed out.

Automatic discovery says discovery completed (no error) Found 0 manageable devices.

I can ping both the IP addresses and confirmed I'm using the correct IP's by looking in MDCU and checking the mgmt port 0 and port 1 IP addresses.

Anyone come across this before? is it just a management console issue where I might just need to reinstall the software on the host server or is a reboot of the MD3600i required?

Thanks

Seeking information regarding the SMI provider for MD3200i

Hello

I would like to know if the SMI provider read/write actions could affect the performance of a MD3200i array.

The array is the datastore for a VMWare 4.6 enviroment and I do not want hae any problems with the performance of the VMs.

Help!!

Hi All,

I need some support or guidance on this PowerVault 3220 SAS issue. I have the following firmware on the PowerVault:

I have located a older firmware YS0A, however am unable to apply to single drive due to the uncertified status.

Anyone got suggestions? I have seen a thread on here stating to update controller firmware, however it contains the latest. I don't have any free slots to create another array. So, I am kinda stuck on how to get this single drive updated. I do have another Dell system I could possibly update the firmware using Linux (VMWare Host) update...however that is just as difficult for down time. Is there a method around this to update single SAS drive firmware?

I thought Dell updated firmware so that this non-Dell purchased Hard Drive would be resolved. However seems not to be the case.

If any one has suggestions, or further questions. Please let me know.

MD3000i with Server 2012

I am getting ready to upgrade several of my older Server 2008 R2 boxes to Server 2012.  One of my boxes has connections to an MD3000i.  I ran across a thread on a different forum *suggesting* the possibility that the MD3000i was incompatible with Server 2012.  It was not flat out said as such...but I thought I'd better run this up the flag pole here to get some kind of confirmation one way or the other!

Backup Tape jobs failing with Event ID: 11 LSI_SAS2

One of our customers has a Dell PowerEdge T420, with an external Quantum lto6 drive connected to the external sas connector.

From about Nov 15, we started seeing tape backup jobs failing in Veeam. When we check the Windows system log at that time, we're seeing a number of Event ID: 11 LSI_SAS2 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort1.

We're now seeing this a lot more, and its causing a lot problems with backups to tape.

Any ideas ?

Understanding ML6000 drive lights

Looking for some help on this one...

We have a slew of WN444's (LTO4-FC drives) for our ML6000. The problem is that they are not accessible to the host. If I remove the lid and peek inside, none of the drives have any SCD errors. What is more perplexing is that the library can read all the VPD information (OCP shows serial, firmware, model #, etc.)

On the back of the drive, the blue status light (top right) stays solid and the green status light (bottom most light) blinks one a second. I'll try digging into more resources, but I'm truly stumped to why there are like 6 of them exactly like this.
Thanks!

MD3200 Upgrade

Hi,

For space problem I intend expand a MD3200 (12x450GB HDD SAS RAID5) with a MD1200 (2x600GB SAS RAID1).  In this case, can I use this additional space for increase one (or more) existent VDisk/LUN? Without destroy any data, obviously.

Thanks for your patience, English is not my language.

Question about how MD1200 works with PowerEdge Server

$

I have a PowerEdge T630 with PERC H730 controller and a 12Gbs HBA SAS Storage adapter.  I'm are looking to add more storage for backup/archiving purposes.  I'm looking at using the MD1200 or MD1220 to support that role as opposed to a NAS (due to limited network bandwidth in our environment).  If I connect the MD12XX to the T630 will the disks show up in PERC RAID Management screens; allowing me to configure it as another RAID array?  Or does the MD1200 need to be configured with its own RAID controller in order to be accessed as a single virtual disk? If the answer is the former, is there a performance benefit for the MD12XX having its own RAID controller?

Largest supported LUN on PowerVault?

The largest supported LUN I can find documentation for on Dell PowerVault products is 64TB.  Do they get bigger than this?  This was on an MD3200.  There are newer generations of the MD platform, but I can't find a max supported LUN anywhere in the documentation for the MD36XX, MD38XX or anything newer.  Can anyone help me find this?  Thanks!

MD1200 was operating with control panel out

I couldn’t figure out why the enclosure mode switch was up, and OMSA showed the MD1200 operating in split mode.  I finally touched the MD1200 control panel and the control panel lights turned on. I hadn’t caught on that the panel lights were off, oops.

I would like to have the MD1200 operate in unify mode.  The instructions regarding switching from split to unify mode are a bit worrisome, the part that says “…some virtual disks may appear as foreign if the configuration is not deleted before turning the enclosure back up.”  I really don’t want to loose the data on the virtual drive.  If the T610 is powered down, then the MD1200 is powered down, process reversed, will there be any problems with the existing data on the RAID?

There is one RAID 10 with 4 tb hard drives, a total of six disks in slots 0-5.  The controller is a H800 and the server is a T610.  The EMM firmware is 1.01, H800 is 12.10.6-0001, OMSA is 8.1.0.

Thanks,

Jeff

Raid Tiering?

$

Dear All,

how does RAID Tiering work, especially in SC 2000 series? Is data moved between different RAID levels? Is it really physically moved or is there any abstraction layer? Is there any other name for this technique?

Somewhere I found a powerpoint presentation that suggests that data was held simultaneously in RAID level 10 for write and level 5 or 6 for read access. Is this possible? Is there any caching technique? When is determined what "hot" data is?

Is tiering reasonable when there are SAS disks only, no SSDs (or SATA as lower level)?

Thank you in advance.

Hi, our LTO-4 tape drive installed in R610 is damaged, so we're forced to buy new one. Please let me know which LTO-5 tape drives are compatible with R610? Does anyone know if Tandberg LTO-5 HH Internal Drive (3518-LTO) will work?

Currently we're using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Servers

If you need more details about server configuration, please write.

Hi

Open Manage essentials reports that the server needs an update for component IBM-ULTRIUM-HH4 (LTO4 drive) and offers LTO4-120_Tape-Drives_Firmware_P03KR_WN64_F991_A14.EXE

Installed version is C7QJ, the available version is F991

Device manager shows Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA card and IBM ULTRIUM 4 HH TAPE DRIVE

After downloading and attempting installation, the installer errors with "This UPdate Package is not compatible with your system configuration."

I have tried both 32bit and 64bit versions of the installer.

Server is Windows Server 2012 (not R2)

Thanks in advance.

Add Disk Array to R620 with MD1200

I have a R620 server running Redhat Enterprise 6.4 connecting a MD1200 disk array with a H800 card

the disk usage on the MD1200 disk array will be full soon.

Can we add another MD1200 disk array to expand the disk storage ?

We may need further 30TB. It seems the MD1200 could not provide enough disk space. What other module of disk array can we add ?

Thank you

Hi

I have a PowerVault MD3060e and although not stated if an external raid controller like a H800, H810 or H830 is supported by the unit I am able to see all the drives and create virtual disks but when I look in open manage and navigate to storage I notice I have an red cross on connector 1 relating to an unknown backplane.  Connector 1 is fine and I am able to view the physical disks in the MD unit.

I have tested both controllers are performing correctly and I am able to load balance and when I fail over the controllers I still have full access to the virtual disks.

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can correct the connector 0 error

Dave

Difference between 3.5 hot swap disk tray for SATA and SAS?

Is there a difference between the hot swap disk tray for SAS and SATA?  It looks like the only difference is a notch on the SAS which the SATA doesn't have.  I am wondering why there is a difference.
