I'm about to purchase a MD1200 and throw some 6TB Seagate SATA drives in it. Is there any reason this won't work? H800's will be (split) plumbed into this array.

New PV MD3660f
I just had a new MD3660f delivered to my COLO and I have dell support contracted for 2 parts 1st to install it and 2nd to configure it. I have never seen or configured this before so that's why I got the support. I see it shipped with
2 ASSEMBLY, ENCLOSURE, CONTROLLER, FIBER CHANNEL, MD3660F, 4GB and
4 Assembly, Transceiver, Small Form Factor Pluggable, FC8, 8G, MD36XXF
I physically have 2 fiber channel switches, at the location. Do I have Controller 1 plug into switch 1 and 2 and controller 2 plug also into switch 1 and 2. then just have each controllers management port plug into my normal network switch.
I'm just a little confused on what to have the installer do so that way I don't waist time with it comes to the configuring part.
Thanks in advance.
Dell PowerVault TL2000 map on windows server 2008
Hello All,
I have problem with Dell PowerVault TL2000 Problem I am not able to map it on windows server 2008 with ISSCI initiator
I tried another one and it worked with no problems with same server configuration .
I updated the firmware for ISSCI adapter and the tape itself but no chance
I checked logs on TL2000 I found :

MD3000i - error with drive when status is optimal / non-preferred path
Hey,
i have a problem with md3000i in my customer.
After replacing battery in controller B amber LED in enclosure is blinking, maybe is coincidence maybe not. please notice that i replaced already disk in slot 8 but nothing changed.
I tried change volume AE4 owner controller to preferred but it still switches to another controller (such as on the pictures).
Recovery guru still shows:

MD3220 SAS Hyper-V cluster - Virtual disks constantly switching to not on preferred path due to failover Event Priority
Hi, all...
I have the following cluster:
2 x R610, Windows Server 2012 R2, each with one 2-port 6Gb SAS HBA card
1 x MD3220 DAS with 2 controllers
I have had this cluster up and working fine since March 2014. One of the servers were replaced with another R610 and the SAS card & disks were moved to the replacement. System booted just fine. Now the Virtual Disks keep constantly switching from ok to "not on preferred path due to failover". What I have tried:
I verified that the cabling is correct - 1 port on each server to Controller 0 & one to Controller1
Rebooted each server. After reboot the switching starts again.
I was wondering if someone may think it is a controller issue?
Moving the SAS card to the replacement server, do I need to remove host from MD3220 and re-add?
Any help here is appreciated.

MD3000i - Loss of Path Redundancy
Hi,
we bought a used MD3000i and exchanged the disks inside with new disks, initialized the RAID 6 and finished the setup without problems.
Now, that we mounted the iSCSI disk and started formatting it, a lot of errors pop up in the MDSM, as are:
- Expansion Enclosure - Loss of Path Redundancy
- Individual Physical Disk - Degraded Path (one message per disk)
- Degraded Physical Disk Channel
As it seems, Controller 1 is the trouble maker - but I'm not sure about it. The steps from Recovery Guru don't help. So my questions now are:
- How to proceed, as there is no support any longer on the storage?
- Can the MD3000i be degraded to a 1-controller-setup?
Thanks for any help,
Ralf
MD3200i : Multipath switchover expected delay
Hello,
we are using a MD3200i and 2 R610 installed with Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. Each R610 has a direct iSCSI connection to each Controler of the SAN.
I'd like to know what is the expected multipath switchover delay when I disconnect the active iSCSI cable from the server. (the other iSCSI connection from the server to the 2nd controller is still available and becomes the new active connection).
I have made several tests of iSCSI switchovers (disconnect the active iSCSI cable, the 2nd becomes the new active) :
- If I run a big SQL query just after the cable disconnection, it completes normally
- if I start a big SQL query or a file copy to the SAN, then I disconnect the cable, there is a delay of 1 minute.
Is it normal to see a delay of 1 minute for the second test of an ongoing request or file copy ?
(I was assuming that the multipath driver was assuring an immediate switchover in any case, am I wrong ?)
MD3000 Battery Replacement Required after trying 2 new batteries.
Current configuration
Firmware version: 07.35.39.64
Appware version: 07.35.39.64
Bootware version: 07.35.39.64
After replacing a battery twice in just a few days I am still getting "Battery Replacement Required".
I have set readCacheEnabled=False and then back to True and then set the learnCycleDate daysToNextLearnCycle=0
the log says "RAID Controller Module cache battery is fully charged" but I still have the Battery Replacement Required in the status.
Any ideas
Dell MD3600i Disk Group expansion
Hi All,
Our Dell MD3600i storage consists three expansion enclosures.
Total Disks = 48 (Including RAID Enclosure-0)
Below said two disk groups were created with protection of RAID-6,
Disk_Group_0 = 30 SAS 600GB 15K RPM Drives
Disk_Group_1 = 14 SAS 600GB 15K RPM Drives
Hot Spare = 02 SAS 600GB 15K RPM Drives
SSD_Cache = 02 SSD 400GB Drives
We have 5 vDisks carved out from "Disk_Group_0" and 6 vDisks carved out from "Disk_Group_1"
Free Space details:
Disk_Group_0 = 799GB free out of 15.269TB
Disk_Group_1 = 1426.476GB free out of 6700.876GB
We have purchased MD1200 expansion enclosure with 12* SAS 600GB 15K RPM Drives.
we planned to expand both disk groups with 6 drives each.
Is there any production impact during disk group expansion?
Is there a chance for performance issue to occur existing vDisk access?
How long will take expansion to complete?
After the expansion, manual defragment is required?

MD3000 Virtual Disk cache tuning?
Hi All, we have a SQL server TempDB drive being served from an MD3000. It's comprised of (4) 15K SAS drives in a RAID 10 array. I was recently asked to see if there was a way to adjust the cache settings on this virtual drive to favor writes vs. reads. I looked all over MDSM but could not find any cache settings. According to this doc, there are GUI and CLI settings available, but they do not tell you where? > ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md3000_User%27s%20Guide2_en-us.pdf
I'd prefer to do this through the GUI if possible. Anyone know where these setting are located in MDSM or how I can even verify what they're currently set to?
Thanks!

PowerVault TL2000 tape library & drive LT05 HH
Hi all,
I have checked the firmware of my PowerVault TL2000 tape, it is 9t30 which is up-to-date. I am looking to update the drive LT05 HH 's firmware which is outdated and has the version D2AD. I can't find the firmware for LT05 HH, I found for LT05 but without HH.
I am wondering if LT05 and LT05 HH both would have the same firmware ?

Expansion of MD3600i (adding disk shelf)
I've currently got a couple of MD3600i's at sites; In the same sites I've a couple of Poweredge servers with MD1200 DAS SAS shelves.
I'm looking at removing the shelves from the Servers, and adding them to the 3600's.
I'm not expecting any data on the shelves to transfer over, both 3600's have additional physical support feature keys. My only concern is that the MD3600's are 900GB drives, the MD1200's are 2TB drives.
My questions are:
1) Is what I'm planning feasible?
2) Would the new drives show up a separate available pool of storage? Again, I'm not going to be trying to spread any current Luns onto the new drives, just create new luns on these drives.
3) Is adding storage a hot swap event? Can I add the shelf via the external SAS or does it require power down?
MD3000i Degraded POOL
Good Day,
My MD3000i shows one more disks failed, when I go to replaced them it shows no disk failed. There is no flashing red lights on the array either. The yellow light is flashing.
MD3000 Raid Controller Module Memory Parity Error
MD3000 has two controllers. One of the controller failed. SO I replaced it with an used, but working controller. All errors are gone, except one "RAID Controller Module Memory Consistency Error".
Recovery Guru recommends steps which I followed without luck.
Looking for help in this forum.

Migrating MD1200 from a Dell 2950 to a New Server R720
Hi All ,
We want to migrate one of our Windows servers to a new hardware from Dell 2950 to Dell R720
The Old Server is connected with a Dell MD 1200 .
How should we go about connecting the MD 1200 with the new server
Will the New server recognize all the volume and data as it is or will the data be lost and MD1200 needs to be reformatted ??
PV 114X no longer recognized by the OS
I have a PV114X that we had working under both RedHat 6 and Solaris 11. Both recognized the device and worked right out of the box with a fresh OS install. Now neither fully recognize the device. Solaris consistently sees the device on a SCSI scan as evident in the dmesg output but /dev/rmt/0 is not created. RH saw the device in the initial OS install, created /dev/st0 and also returned output on an 'mt -f /dev/st0 status' command. However, when I issued a 'tar -tfv /dev/st0' it returned an I/O error and never recognized the device again on subsequent reboots even though there was an entry in the SCSI table for the device.
I find this very odd since there are two drives in this unit, each on separate SCSI chains. There are two SAS ports on each drive. I am pretty sure one is for input and the other for chaining but there is no documentation specifying this. Which one is the input? There are no markings on the port.
How can I troubleshoot this further?
SSD Cache
For the Dell PowerVault series, how many SSDs minimum are required to initiate SSD cache? Can you extend the controller read cache capacity and if yes, how much?
